For me, one of the delights of the mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton’s recital at Zankel Hall on Monday was the discovery of three songs from Libby Larsen’s cycle “Love After 1950.” Ms. Barton’s fine pianist was Kathleen Kelly, and piano was crucial in “Big Sister Says (Beauty Hurts),” where Ms. Larsen has concocted a heady blend of boogie-woogie and Prokofiev (the finale of his Seventh Piano Sonata). Here, in a performance from the Colburn School in Los Angeles, the mezzo-soprano is the melodiously named Loralee Songer, and the boffo pianist is Taisiya Pushkar. JAMES R. OESTREICH
