Concert Series: It Was in Early Spring: Russian Song
2017 marks the bicentennial of the great Russian poet Count Alexey Konstantinovich Tolstoy (1817-1875). This master of lyric verse inspired a “who is who” of Russian Romantic composers to write art songs to his poetry, including Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Balakirev, and Rachmaninoff, to name just a few. Liza Stepanova curates this anniversary celebration and has selected a program that includes both beloved favorites and lesser-known but gorgeous works rarely heard outside of Russia.
