TALES FROM THE VIENNA WOODS: ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION
Monday Jan. 2, 7:30 pm. Public is invited for free.
Hidden Valley Music Seminars, Carmel Valley CA
Vienna has long been, and remains, a world centre of music. Celebrated singers and their pianists have a close and sometimes complicated relationship to the city which is described by many today as the most comfortable city in Europe in which to live and work. GRAHAM JOHNSON chairs a verbal celebration of "Wien". He will speak briefly about the city's links to each of the famous composers in the Hidden Valley programme. He will then invite other members of the distinguished faculty to provide anecdotes or thoughts about their own relationship to Vienna, both as visiting artists (at the Staatsoper, the Musikverein, the Konzerthaus, and Theater an der Wien) or as bewitched and sometimes irritated tourists. We hope this will be a worthy evocation of a city of which the singers at Hidden Valley will find themselves week long honorary citizens.
