Pianist Kevin Murphy is a leading figure in the world of classical vocal music.
"Kevin Murphy is in the vanguard for Americans who have turned song accompaniment into an art. The pianism was so absorbing, the singer's entry seemed like an intrusion. There can be no finer compliment." -San Francisco Examiner
The Emerging Artist Recital was streamed live on December 7 in New York City. If you missed the recital you can watch it here.

For me, one of the delights of the mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton’s recital at Zankel Hall on Monday was the discovery of three songs from Libby Larsen’s cycle “Love After 1950.” Ms. Barton’s fine pianist was Kathleen Kelly, and piano was crucial in “Big Sister Says (Beauty Hurts),” where Ms. Larsen has concocted a heady blend of boogie-woogie and Prokofiev (the finale of his Seventh Piano Sonata). HERE, in a performance from the Colburn School in Los Angeles, the mezzo-soprano is the melodiously named Loralee Songer, and the boffo pianist is Taisiya Pushkar. JAMES R. OESTREICH

Congratulations to the prize winners of the 2017 Wigmore Hall/Kohn Foundation International Song Competition, which took place at Wigmore Hall on Thursday 7 September.
Congratulations!!! SongFest Marc and Eva Stern Fellows Simone McIntosh, mezzo-soprano (2017) and Ally Smither, soprano (2013, 2015, 2016) for being named 30 Hot Canadian Musicians Under 30, 2017 edition.
At 25, Simone McIntosh has already ticked a big item off her bucket list: singing the role of Judith in Bartók's Bluebeard's Castle, which she did in March with Opera McGill.
Like many musicians, Alexandra Smither describes herself as a nomad these days, splitting her time between Toronto and Houston, Texas, where she recently graduated from Rice University's Shepherd School of Music.
